Free Street Magic
Street magic isn’t any different to any other kind of magic, except that it’s often up close and personal with the spectators. You’d think that this would make it easier for them to see your sleight of hand etc, but in actual fact it makes it easier for you to do things stealthily. It’s much easier to use misdirection when you are close up and distract people from seeing what you are really doing.
Street magic is one of the most exhilarating kinds of magic a magician can do. Nothing beats getting out onto the street and performing up close and personal. In order to get into street magic you’ll need a few tools such as a deck of cards and some coins, but most of all you’ll need heaps and heaps of patience as you practice and practice the tricks.
In street magic you can do lots of different tricks; anything from making an item levitate to making things disappear and then reappear. To make some levitate is one of the most exciting tricks a magician can do as often it makes the audience wonder if magic is really happening and that it’s not just sleight of hand.
The easiest way to learn how to make an object levitate is to get a piece of clear string and fasten it to your hand using some sticky-backed plastic. Also attach this to the object you want to levitate and then you can practise moving your fingers about and making the item move. If you keep practising this you will make it look like the object you have is floating with the power of your hands.
One of the things you can do is practice your tricks in front of a mirror for better accuracy and technique. Often when performing a trick it looks completely different from your own point of view and it’s important to make sure you’re not giving the game away with sloppy sleight of hand.
